Lori Fink Named Board Chair of the Cancer Institute at NYU Langone Medical Center

October 09, 2009

New York - August 1, 2009: Lori Fink has been appointed Chair of the Board of Directors of the NYU Cancer Institute. She will play an active role in strategic planning while engaging other Board members in this process. Mrs. Fink will also work closely with the leadership of the NYU Langone Medical Center (NYULMC) Board, and with the Dean and senior leadership of the Medical Center to advance the mission of the Cancer Institute and resources needed for expansion.

Mrs. Fink has a long history with the NYULMC as a member of the NYULMC Board of Trustees, as the former Chairperson of the Campaign for Children's Health, as the former Co-Chair of KiDS of NYU, and most recently, as a member of the NYUCI Board of Directors. She is also on the Board of Directors of Prep for Prep, a leadership development program for inner city minority youth which the NYU Cancer Institute has had the good fortune of partnering with to place students in summer internships.

Mrs. Fink received a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA and a Master of Science degree from the Bank Street College of Education. She has also studied photography at the International Center of Photography in New York.

Mrs. Fink and her husband, Larry Fink, who is Co-Chair of the NYULMC Board of Trustees, have raised significant resources for NYU Langone. They chaired the 2008 NYU Cancer Institute Gala, which raised over $1.5 million. As major donors to the institution, they established both the Laurence D. and Lori Weider Fink Children's Ambulatory Care Center at East 32nd Street and the Laurence D. and Lori Weider Fink Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Tisch Hospital.

"As Chair, Lori will partner with us to implement the vision and philosophy of the NYU Cancer Institute," says NYUCI Director William L. Carroll, MD, Julie and Edward J. Minskoff Professor of Pediatrics. "She will help to raise awareness of our rapidly expanding programs and the resources needed for future growth in all dimensions, including clinical care and basic and clinical research for both adult and pediatric cancers, as well as community outreach and education."

"I'm very excited to work with Bill and help lead the NYU Cancer Institute," says Mrs. Fink. "This is a transformational time at the Institute, and I am honored to be a part of the team."
