Biospecimen Access
TABS has established the following standard procedure for all requests:
Requests requiring human biospecimens need appropriate IRB approval for their research prior to obtaining samples. The following documents are requested prior to disbursement of samples:
- IRB approval/exemption
- Copy of protocol
- Completed Biospecimen form
Requests for research specific protocols (requiring pretreatment and post-treatment samples), the Principal Investigator must obtain consent on his/her IRB approved consent form. TABS staff is then notified of the date of surgery. TABS staff procure, process, and store the samples according to the specific needs of the protocol. The following documents are requested prior to rendering services:
- IRB protocol approval letter
- Copy of protocol
- Completed Biospecimen form
- Copy of Informed Consent and copy of research authorization
- Notification in writing sent to TABS for every recruited patient
All requests should be submitted to the TABS Laboratory Manager, nelli.ziguridis@nyumc.org.
Biospecimen requests are reviewed by the Scientific Advisory Committee chaired by Dr. Singh. The SAC comprises the directors of all Organ-Specific Banks, translational scientists and biostatisticians. The review is done expeditiously and approval is typically granted in two to three working days.
Acknowledgment of the NYUCI Tissue Bank in any publications that may result from studies performed on the samples and receipt of a copy of any publications for our records will be appreciated.
